Each year the display gets bigger and better. Last year the front of the house was completely covered in Christmas lights and decorations and there was music playing in the evenings making it even more festive. As so many visitors went to the house to look at the amazing sight Gavlar decided to ask for donations and managed to raise a huge amount of money for local charities. e house has been decorated again this year and donations will be taken for Waterside Cancer Support Centre. e house has been lit up from Saturday 30th November. e lights and snow will be turned on daily from 5pm until 7pm until Thursday 2nd January . is year, there will also be a ra e with some fabulous prizes. Tickets went on sale from 30th November and the ra e will be drawn on Tuesday 24th December . is will be done live on Facebook. Gavlar said : “I am using more and more lights and decorations every year. And I must thank so many kind people who have donated to all of the worthwhile charities.” Visit Ocknell Grove this year, Gavlar is promising a spectacular visit. If you would like to contact Gavlar to make donations or any questions, please Email: gavin697@ hotmail.co.uk Christmas Display at Ocknell Grove ere are the names of 34 yoµng men killed in action during the First World War and 18 young men from the Second World War cited on Copythorne’s War Memorial and 52 young people wore ‘Named Poppies’ on the day to recognise their sacri ce. It is estimated that well over 200 took part in the parade from the Parish Hall to St Mary’s Church led by the Guides with the Union Flag and the Royal British Legion standard carried by ex-Royal Marine Mark Parryt-Norton. ere were representatives from many local organisations including Bartley and Copythorne Schools and a smart contingent from Totton Army Cadets as well as Rainbow Guides, Brownie Guides, Guides and all the Sections from the ‘Stanley’s Own’ Scout Group together with its Scout and Guide Band and its Centenary Band. e main Service was led by the Rev’d John Reeve, the Branch’s Chaplain and his sermon concentrated on ‘One World, Many Nations’ explaining how many nations had helped with the war e ort. e Hon. Mrs Lovell. JP Deputy Lieutenant attended the Service as did Cdr Martin Mackey RN, (Hampshire County Scout Commissioner). e Roll of Honour was read by Navy Veteran ‘Ginge’ Kinley and the Exhortation led by Army Veteran Barry Ryder. Such was the attendance in the Church it was relayed to people in the adjoining Scout Headquarters. At the War Memorial Service the Two Minutes Silence was observed and nearly 30 wreaths were laid by local organisations. A er the Services both Bands had to leave to travel to Lyndhurst and support the Lyndhurst Remembrance Parade. Over the weekend the Copythorne History Society had displayed the military histories at the entrance to the Church of nearly 100 men who had been involved in the Wars including the 52 named on the war memorial.
