Over the years Marc has introduced ducks and rallied neighbours to help him, and alongside the Parish Council keeps the pond and viewing platform in a good, safe condition. He has even built houses for the ducks! e decision for the overall recipient of the Community Spirit Award was very tough, there were so many exceptional nominees to choose from. The winner was Jo Snocken who volunteers at The Coffee House at St Andrews Church. She realised that many of their regular What a ‘Hythe’ of Activity! Santa stopped by whilst enjoying a well-deserved holiday in Hythe! Continued from front page customers were older and lived on their own, relying on the Co ee House for a hot meal and company; without which le them potentially vulnerable and isolated. During the rst lockdown Jo organised 30 volunteers who delivered 150 hot meals a day to those who were unable to go out. ey later added lunch bags for vulnerable school children too. e lunches frequently included little gi s to li spirits and gave the recipients some contact with the outside world. Congratulations and well done to all the nominees, overall winners, volunteers, and all involved in organising the event – what an honour to be part of such a great community! ALMOST TIME TO ROCK THE PIER! by Alan Titheridge, HPHA It’s almost time for (HPHA) Hythe Pier Heritage Association’s musical festival Rock the Pier 2021. is year’s much anticipated event will take place on Saturday 11th September. First staged in 2018, Rock the Pier quickly established itself in the Waterside social calendar before the pandemic and its restrictions brought about the cancellation of last year’s event. Rock the Pier 2021 promises to make up for this loss and bring some much-needed cheer to the local community. Relocated to the arena on the promenade behind Hythe’s High Street, the show will be viewed against a backdrop of Hythe’s Victorian pier with its iconic 99 years old railway trundling up and down to the ferry throughout the day. Bands and artists booked are Wire JD, a duo who will open proceedings at 10 am, REM tribute band REMbrandt, When Harri met Alli a duo singing both classic and modern covers, the popular New Forest old time ski e and folk band e Trav Cats, Solo Bluesman Bob Long, 10-piece soul and funk band the Soulcatchers, solo performer Sophie Louise Penwill and to round it all o , the One-O s, a local 3-man band. Rock the Pier 2021 will be sponsored by the Scratch Project, a collection of local business people who on the one hand provide fantastic services for their clients, delivering excellence and taking great pride in their work and who on the other want to work together, with other project partners to group fund local good causes. For more information about the Scratch Project go to: www.scratchproject.co.uk Rock the Pier 2021 t-shirts will be available from an HPHA stall in Hythe’s Tuesday market, but don’t worry if you can’t get your hands on one beforehand, they will be available on the day.
