Two of the original families attending the group were previously getting help and support from a volunteer two hours per week. I met both families back in May as we were just emerging out of lockdown and were still very much under COVID-19 restrictions. Both are single parent families, they found lockdown immensely di cult and isolating. ey had rarely had the chance to go out or see friends and had not seen outside agencies in person, instead receiving only limited telephone support. It had clearly severely a ected their mental health and self-esteem and both found themselves nervous to go out by themselves or undertake things they had previously taken for granted. Our volunteers did an amazing job of slowly building their con dence, taking them to groups and activities once these started regularly happening again, reassuring them of their attend the group by themselves and appreciate talking to other adults about ideas for the future alongside enjoying a hot drink and I feel privileged to have been part of the team that helped them alongside our amazing volunteers. I feel honored to have helped them along with the amazing volunteers that are the bedrock of Home-Start. We are always keen to hear from new volunteers or families that need support via the group, Totton Library Wednesdays 9.30am to 11am, New Milton Library 1pm to 2.30pm.
