Organised by Wilton Manor’s activities team, Debra Hughes, Maria Wort and Laura omson, the party saw Florence joined by sta , fellow residents, and her family, as the Wilton Manor team came together to honour her milestone birthday. Florence, known as Flo, was treated with not one but two cakes – one made by Wilton Manor’s very own Chef, Chris Gri ths, and the other ower-inspired cake was made by Marcela Neagoe, Wilton Manor’s Clinical Deputy Manager. When asked how it felt to turn 105 years old, Flo commented: “It was a lovely day and I felt very spoilt. To receive a card from the Queen was also very exciting – I wonder if she is lucky enough to get two cakes on her birthday.” Flo’s 105th birthday was made all the more special by the presence of her son, Graham. Graham, who lives in France, and due to the pandemic, hadn’t seen Flo in over 2 years, was overjoyed that he was able to surprise her on her birthday. Perpetual Mafunga, Home Manager at Wilton Manor Bupa Care Home, commented: “The whole team were delighted to be a part of Flo’s special day, as she is dearly loved by everyone at Wilton Manor. It was especially heart-warming to see her reunited with her son Graham – I don’t think there was a dry eye amongst the team when we saw them embrace.” Flo, who has lived at Wilton Manor for seven years, was born in Southampton and grew up in a family of four brothers and three sisters. Working in jobs at Marks and Spencer’s and the Post O ce, Flo went on to raise her son, Graham, alongside her husband, Alfred George. Now, as a resident of Wilton Manor, Flo enjoys listening to music, chatting to her fellow residents, and reminiscing about fond memories of her time Flo celebrating her 105th Birthday travelling around Europe with her husband. Debra Hughes, Activities Co-ordinator at Wilton Manor, commented: “We always love going above and beyond for our residents, so Flo’s birthday was a perfect chance to make her feel like a Queen for the day.” Wilton Manor Bupa Care Home is situated in Southampton and welcomes residents in need of nursing or residential care, including those living with dementia.
