Page 76 • The HERALD • 14th July 2022 v SAY YOU SAW IT IN THE HERALD v SPORT IN THE HERALD Bramshott Hill Seniors Results Dibden Open Golf Society (DOGS) Results Monday 13th of June dawned a bright sunny day and Bramshott Hill Seniors were eager to play their scheduled Stableford Quali er. A group of 29 players took to the course with high hopes of some good scoring due to the near perfect conditions. Sure enough, they were not disappointed with results as follows: Mens Division 1: 1st Paul Wastell, 2nd Henry Porter, 3rd Brian Denham; Mens Division 2: 1st Jeffrey Andrews, 2nd Hugh Rowan, 3rd Bill Merrett. Wednesday 15th June and Bramshott Hill Seniors prepared to play seniors from Wellow Golf Club in a Match Play competition at Dibden Golf Course. e weather was very hot and bottles of water and sun cream were very evident. e course was in excellent condition for the match and the outcome was eagerly anticipated. A hotly contested match followed with Bramshott Hill coming out victors with four games won to Wellow’s two wins. e match should have been followed by a meal in the club house. Unfortunately during the match a Power Cable had broken and the club was without any electrical power. However a very enjoyable and convivial drink was enjoyed on the terrace in the glorious sunshine. 31st May: e DOGS played ‘Any 4 Club Challenge’ carrying only 4 clubs competition. e Winner: J Poore (41 C/B) 2nd Place: B Dash (41) 3rd Place: P Blackwood (37 C/B) 4th Place: Sue Hallett (37 C/B) 5th Place: DWilkins (37) and 6th Place: K Maton (36) Nearest the Pins D McManus (4th) Pro’s Approach: T O’Conner (12th) and R Hallett (15th) 2’s Competition Solo Winner D McManus. Nearest the Pin Winners: DThorpe (4th Hole) J Crumpler (11th Hole) and B Barnard (17th Hole). 21st June: e DOGS played their annual early morning gol ng summer madness game played over two rounds on Dibden Golf Centre’s 9 hole course followed by breakfast. Bramshott Hill team v Wellow Monday 20th June was another glorious summers day which greeted 32 Bramshott Hill Seniors as they met at Dibden Golf Course to contest the Veterans Cup competition. e game was to be played as a Medal Quali er, considered the most challenging format of the game. e course was in great condition and a close match was anticipated. A er about four hours in the gruelling heat the results were in and they were; Division 1: 1st Brian Denham, 2nd Paul Wastell, 3rd Stuart Bulbrooke; Division 2: 1st Ed Piggin, 2nd Bill Merrett, 3rd Mike Webb; Division 3: 1st Eddie Ford, 2nd Jeff Andrews, 3rd John Annetts. e winner of the Veterans cup is Eddie Ford with a nett score of 66. Well done and congratulations Eddie. 24th May, Tommy Trotter Trophy: With a dozen New Forest Golf Club Seniors away on the annual Isle of Wight Tour, a much smaller eld of just 23 turned out for this stableford competition o the white tees. Scores were close in Division 1 with Mike Broom leading one point ahead of Chris Webb. In Division 2 Pete Bennett’s 42 points ensured rst prize and the trophy, a full 6 points ahead of second place Neil Edmondson. In Division 1, Ivor Gri ths’ 7 pars and 1 birdie helped him to a nett 66, 1 stroke ahead of Phil Walker. Division 2 saw the top two both on nett 65, but Roy Nelson’s back 9 nett score of 30 put him in rst position ahead of Pete Bennett. Division 1: 1st Ivor Griffiths 66 nett, 2nd Phil Walker 67 nett, 3rd Ray Hurst 68 nett (back 9 33 nett, back 6 22 nett) Division 2: 1st Roy Nelson - 65 nett (back 9 30 nett, 2nd Pete Bennett - 65 nett (back 9 33 nett) 3rd Ian Tyrrell - 67 nett (back 9 31 nett) 9th June, Queens Jubilee Roll Up: On a ne sunny day (although there were a few spots of rain from an apparently cloudless sky) 38 New Forest Golf Club Seniors competed in this stableford competition o the yellow tees. In Division 1, David Jones’ 1 birdie and 9 pars (7 of them on the back 9) helped him to a total of 40 points, however Division 2’s Neil Edmondson pipped him at the post scoring a magni cent 41 points to claim the trophy. Congratulations go to the winners H Bell and M Robinson with a great score of 40 points. Just behind in second place S Lewis and H Hanmore shared the same points (39) as the third place pairing of L Compton and C Caswell. Meanwhile on the 9 hole short course the competition was won by P Hansford with L Moore in second and J Richardson in third. Queenmaker Jubilee Celebration A er the success of the Coronation Foursomes it was onto the main event a Bowmaker mixed team event that was renamed Queenmaker in honour of the Jubilee. Participants were encouraged to wear red white and blue whilst the clubhouse was decked with bunting and an indoor street party. Everyone agreed it was a great success and the celebrations on the terrace brought together the whole of Bramshott Hill Golf Club. e winning team was Craig Whittington, Neil Rogers and Sue Hallett closely followed by Gary Hawker, John Gordon and Su Leonard.
