Paintbrush in hand and even a hammer, a saw and a plane and also a spanner. What were they up to? What were they doing? Whatever it was, it was well worth viewing. First the derelict shed was nicely renovated because when they first saw it, it was dilapidated. Next they turned their hands at making things with wood, and everything they tried turned out to be good. A bigger project beckons them, the carriage for the train My goodness it needed doing and that was very plain. It took a lot of doing and all their combined skills but when we finally saw it, it gave us all a thrill. You see to Hythe the ferry and train really are a treasure, so what these men accomplished really gave us pleasure. So as you men go home at the end of the day We folk of Hythe just want to have our say. A really big thank you - and we’ll say it again, Thank you guys for saving our very unique train! ra e and tombola have been donated by e Welsh Cheese Company, Golden Gecko Climbing, Blue Reef Aquarium, I wanna be play village, Waitrose Romsey and Paulton’s Park. Gardening Time is Here Again by Vic Lee I suppose it’s time to go to work in the garden And pull out all the weeds Then trim back all the branches Of the overhanging trees Then I’ll have to clear under the bushes and the scrubs Among the stinging nettles, brambles and the docks And risk cutting my knees on broken bottles And lumps of jagged rocks I really do not like gardening Why? I really don’t know Perhaps it was the accident I had when I broke my nose When as a kid I stood upon a hoe Putting all my fears to one side I pulled on my welly boots And going into the long grass I tripped over some half buried roots Falling straight down on my face I bashed my nose on a stone sticking out of the ground Only to hear my wife shout that stones go a hole in it It’s a lucky stone you’ve found Magic Spell by Dorothy Lockyer The English language can be quite a pain There are words that sound exactly the same The art of course is being able to spell For the meaning to be as clear as a bell! You can’t drive the golf ball from the tea You can’t relax with a nice cup of tee Nor pocket the billiard ball with a queue Or find your way to the shortest cue. You can’t take a vase and stick in a flour Or make a cake with self-raising flower The prisoner can’t be locked in a sell You can’t put your goodies on E Bay to cell. When you take up your pen, begin to right Make sure you get all the spellings write!! Can you dance, yes just a bit, I’ve got two left feet so I’m not very quick! Well, I can dance modern and old, I dance quite well or so I’ve been told… The dances I like are tap and jive, But with these two left feet I could take a dive! I’m willing to learn some fresh new moves… And with these new shoes they may improve! Well I like fast moves so shall we jive? Will get your heart pumping and make you feel alive, Be careful with me when you throw me around! You are in safe hands, so just calm down.. They started their moves, the music played, Bystanders clapped and shouted hooray, His two left feet had righted themselves… They were dancing around like young gazelles! He couldn’t believe the change in himself! Not only enjoyable but good for his health, He thanked the lady that showed him the way… Well she was his wife and they married that day… Can You Dance? by Margaret Bell SEND YOUR POEMS TO THE HERALD AT 2 HIGH STREET, HYTHE SO45 6AH
