For the Chemical Engineer, who studied at Nottingham University and is a Fellow of the Institute of Chemical Engineers, it is like a second home, having spent almost 20 of his 30 years’ service with ExxonMobil at the Hampshire complex. Nick has also held a number of senior process operations, technical, marketing and management roles with the energy and chemicals giant in Europe, USA and latterly Saudi Arabia. Nick returned from a role in Saudi Arabia to Hampshire in early 2022, initially as Chemical Plant Manager before being appointed Plant Manager for both the chemicals and re ning operations following the creation of the integrated ExxonMobil Product Solutions business. As a lead member of e Solent Cluster decarbonisation initiative, ExxonMobil Fawley will also be at the heart of developing potential solutions, including Carbon Capture and Storage, Hydrogen and Biofuels production, to lower carbon emissions across the economic powerhouse of the South. And he is looking forward to leading his team into this new and innovative era. “The future has the potential to be really exciting for us, and all our partners in The Solent Cluster, and it is a great time to be involved in our industry, in the UK, as it creates the solutions for net zero.” he said. “Fawley has been supporting local and national economies for more than 70 years, and I am very proud to have inherited a brilliant team of over 2500 very talented people who will strive to ensure it continues to do so through the exciting and challenging years ahead. As the largest petrochemical complex in the UK, we have the infrastructure, skills and knowledge needed to deliver change. From introducing lead free petrol in the 1980’s to the potential of clean hydrogen production in the 2030’s, we have constantly evolved to ensure Fawley continues to provide the vital energy and chemical products that society needs. Of course a site of this size operating around-the-clock is an interesting challenge in itself and we are not infallible, but safe and reliable operations come above everything else and this is something we all work hard to deliver every day. I am really looking forward to the future here at ExxonMobil Fawley, working with a skilled and dedicated team to continue to make the products society needs.” Nick Bone, Plant Manager at ExxonMobil Fawley
