In 2010, then aged 80, Marian Connolly enjoyed her visits to Hythe so much that she decided to write a poem about the village, writing about how Hythe is a lovely place with friendly people and now, 13 years later, she is living in Hythe and nding it’s just the same! The poem titled ‘Hythe’ was published in ‘A Sense of Place, A Collection of Poems’ by United Press Ltd later that year. Marian who is now 93, moved to Hythe in November 2021. She enjoys her visits to the Horrill Centre where she is well-known for reciting poems there; she’s a bubbly character, full of fun. When she’s not writing poetry Marian loves to knit and has been busy knitting angels for St John’s Church and over the years she has also helped out Liz Winter with her many fundraising Table Top sales for Second Chance Animal Rescue. Marian Connolly A group of club members were recently hosted by John Lewis to a presentation and tour of their Distribution Warehouse in Nursling. is establishment is a development of their older premises in Southampton. Its principal function is to deliver all of the goods o ered by John Lewis requiring a two-person team to deliver, install or assemble the item at the nal delivery point. It handles all types of white goods, furniture and carpets, all requiring some form of installation. e Southampton unit generally covers an area from Lyme Regis to Worthing and north to Swindon. e club thanks John Lewis’ Manager and sta for taking the time to present their operation. After this very interesting visit the club members retired to a local hostelry for a light lunch.
