So it’s a big challenge to hold the reader’s attention. Charles Dickens wrote ve novellas and Jane Austen wrote her fair share, too. But now another Hampshire writer is hot on their heels a er being crowned the winner of an exciting new literature prize. e novella has been championed by e Paul Cave Prize for Literature 2023, established by Tim Saunders Publications in Locks Heath. “There were over twenty novellas submitted,” reveals Tim Saunders, who has read each and every one. “But it was That’s all she wrote by Marion Desmond from Southampton that really shone above all other entries for me. There was a strong storyline, fascinating characters, history, romance and religion, all wrapped up in a really well-written story that required very little editing. I did enjoy reading it.” Marion won £100 and a copy of Novellas - Book 1. “There were so many entries to this prize that I had to publish three books,” admits Tim, who is pleased to announce that e Paul Cave Prize for Literature will return in 2024. Entries for this prize were received from all over the world: the UK, Australia, America, New Zealand, Canada, France, Spain, Sweden to name but a few, so Marion had a lot of competition. e Paul Cave Prize for Literature celebrates the life of the late Hampshire publisher Paul Cave, who established Hampshire the county magazine in Southampton and ran it for over forty years.
