Honeypot provides much needed support and holidays for young carers locally at Honeypot House. The Meddlars are the Forest’s only Morris side and can be seen in the summer dancing at pubs from Eling to Ringwood and Milford to Redlynch as well as at local fetes, festivals and events. Their persuasive tin-rattlers raised a massive £600 from onlookers in 2023 which has now been doubled by match funding. Bumble accepting the cheque from the New Forest Meddlars We Are Looking for Good Samaritans From Fawley and District Voluntary Care Group The Fawley and District Voluntary Care Group are probably unknown to the majority of people but offer a valuable service to the local community. We cover Holbury, Fawley, Calshot, Langley, Exbury and Blackfield areas. We are a very small group of willing volunteers who do our best to help those who need transport to fulfil their daily lives. For the most part we take patients to hospital for their medical and treatment appointments. Mainly we help older generations who cannot drive, who are needing help in walking or maybe even seeing or maybe can’t drive because of their treatment on a specific day. We are there for them to complete those appointments. We do not get involved with serious mobility cases as we are not trained health workers but we do offer an arm to lean on sometimes. Our importance to the community is clear from the number of regular clients we have. We all use our own vehicles for which we get a generous mileage allowance which covers our fuel and a little towards general running costs but sadly no actual payment. We can choose when we are available to help. We would like to expand the number of drivers we have, so if you have some time you could offer, we would be pleased to have you on board and of course we will show you the ropes. Contact Nigel on: 023 8084 7129 or 07714 206397. Please be a Good Samaritan if you can.... At the first meeting of the New Year Janis Bevis was invited to go along and receive a donation for Barry’s Farm. The members raise money during the year for a local organisation and in 2023 they raised £620. Janis thanked everyone for such a generous donation and explained how the money will be used to look after the animals. The February program of events began on Friday 2nd February with a talk by Sandra Simmons on ‘Life after Iran’, and is followed on Friday 16th February when Philippa Drew will be giving a Weather Talk. HYTHE WIVES Janis receiving the donation from Hythe Wives Meetings are held on the 1st and 3rd Friday of the month at St Andrew’s Centre Dibden Purlieu and visitors are welcome.
