I have watched you grow And always done my best. Taught you all I know, Luckily you have learnt the rest! There’s been disagreements. Saying things we don’t mean. With the slamming of doors, Until our hearts intervene. We always stand together, Through laughter and tears. This has strengthened our bond Over all of these years. Now it is your turn, And I watch with great joy, When I see such a love Coming from your girls and your boy. You are their playmate and nurse. Their teacher, their friend. And through all of their lives It’s on you they depend. So as Mother to Mother You are second to none. And as Mother to Daughter Our hearts beat as one. Now William really liked to eat He slipped from his bed, onto his feet In search of something very sweet He liked to give himself a treat! Chocolate cake with cream on top He sat and ate the blooming lot! Then spied the jelly, he couldn’t stop As he fed his belly, plop by plop. A packet of biscuits on the side One by one down his throat did slide. He ate so much he grew quite wide Not a crumb of food got past his eye! He didn’t heed the warning to stop Just chomped and chewed, not caring a jot! Then suddenly, as if he’d been shot Exploded with a very loud pop! Be assured, their ability knows no bounds At their fingertips all solutions are found. No degree needed for being a Mother Yet, they are qualified above all other. They diagnose your ills, your wounds gently tend Encourage words and numbers to become your friend They give you time, show patience beyond belief And apply the wisdom of a warrior chief. Mothers are omniscient, it has to be said There’s no point in trying to “Swing the lead” They know when you’re truthful or telling a lie When you’ve showered, yet remain, somewhat dry! Or said that your homework is done and dusted Yet your time on the mobile phone was entrusted! The gift of a Mother, a treasure to behold More precious to have than refined gold If you possess this gift, don’t forget to say I love you and Thank You for every day. Mother to Daughter to Mother by Marlene Parmenter© The slow motion of the container ship is mesmerising, towering over Henry’s castle like an invasion of modernity into the middle ages, slipping through a portal of time. Its industrial beauty displays the autumnal colours of rusty browns, of violent reds and of sun-streak yellows. It frames the castle like a work of art, like a cubist absurdity. But this is winter, and the tepid sun gleams upon the Solent’s mystic presence. Today it is an unmoving surface, not unlike a sheet of stainless steel that cannot bend, beguilingly becalmed. Hythe Armed Forces & Veterans Breakfast Club takes place on the second Saturday of every month at their new venue of Hythe & District Social Club, Pylewell Road, Hythe. Go along on Saturday 9th March to enjoy the social interaction and banter with fellow veterans which will help improve your mental health and is good for PTSD. Sorry, no dogs on this occasion. Planting Ideas Exhibition St Barbe Museum and Art Gallery in Lymington have a Planting Ideas Exhibition running until 16th March. The exhibition will lead you on a journey through the stages in creating an Herbarium, introducing contemporary art inspired by science and botany. The exhibition looks at historic practices in preserving and presenting plant species and shows how these techniques inspire artists today.
