Derrick’s cra smanship and commitment brought the vision to life, providing a space where young carers can come together to share and explore new hobbies – from making hedgehog houses and watching the wildlife enjoy the feeders, to huddling by the ecofriendly wood burner. e space also encourages children to explore ideas of sustainability with the running water inside coming from collected rainwater. e Honeypot Children’s Charity is a national charity supporting young carers aged ve to twelve, giving them an opportunity to create happy childhood memories and build brighter futures. e Hobby Hut will o er a creative space that allows the young carers to explore the surrounding nature, aligning with e Honeypot Children’s Charity’s early intervention programme designed to alleviate social isolation, reduce stress and anxiety, and build con dence. Mathew Barber, Operations Manager at e Honeypot Children’s Charity house in Hampshire, said: “The Hobby Hut is a great asset for us in Hampshire. It will add even more opportunities for the children we support. It will give the children another opportunity to use their creativity and work with tools, explore nature and use the mud kitchen. For some children they might not have this opportunity at home. On the opening of the Hobby Hut, the children were full of joy and excitement, they couldn’t wait to get inside and start to enjoy all the Hobby Hut has to offer.” e project also received generous support from Charles Cooke-Hurle, Jo Cooke-Hurle, and John Spencer, whose contributions were instrumental in making the Hobby Hut a reality. e opening ceremony at Honeypot House was Hobby Hut opening – left to right: Children from Somerford Primary School, Christchurch, supporters Jo Cooke-Hurle, Charles Cooke-Hurle and John Spencer, Children from Somerford Primary School Calshot Castle is Open During August Have you lived in the area for years, but have never visited Calshot Castle? en go along and enjoy a wander around the historic 1539, Henry VIII defence fort.
