On Friday 17th October is a talk titled ‘ e Body through the Porthole’, telling the true story of a young actress who had ‘liaisons’ with a Deck Hand on board a ship in 1947. She then died, and the Deck Hand was accused of pushing her body through the porthole. e audience will then act as the jury, to decide if the Deck Hand was guilty of murder or not. Totton Repair Café Totton Repair Café is running on Saturday 18th October, 10.30am to 1pm at Totton & Eling Community Centre. e aim of the Totton Repair Café is to try and prevent small household goods from going to land ll if they stop working. You can take along small electrical or other items too good for the tip, you can sit and help/observe with any repair and refreshments are available while you wait for a small charge. It’s also an opportunity to nd out more about the Repair Café and Men’s Shed. A er your repair is completed all they ask for is a voluntary donation towards the cost of the hall and insurance. All veterans, serving personnel, their families and dependents are invited to attend and enjoy the usually good humour, refreshments and occasional visiting guests. Additionally they hold interest sessions once a month, where a short presentation/activity is provided on a range of topics the next sessions are: 20th October - Make your own Christmas Card, 17th November - Email Basics and 15th December - Christmas Quiz. For more information please visit: hythe2000.org Harlots, Dung Glory Part 4 New Forest/Waterside U3A members meetings are held on the rst and third Tuesdays of each month, at St Andrews Hall in Dibden Purlieu, starting at 2pm. Meetings nish at around 3.30pm, but everyone is invited to stay for tea and biscuits if they wish. ey regularly welcome between 90 and 100 people to their meetings. On Tuesday 21st October Andrew Negus, will be entertaining members with “Harlots, Dung and Glory”, the fourth part in his series on the history of Portsmouth. On Tuesday 4th November, they will hold their normally short AGM, followed by a brief presentation from a representative on behalf of “Families Matter”, a local charity which helps to support those in need. Special interest groups meet regularly, including skittles, embroidery, history, and gardening. ere are lunch dates, which are o en fully booked on the day they’re announced. ere is also a group that meets to play boules on alternate ursday a ernoons, at the Old Mill, Hardley, a delightful venue, with a very pretty garden. e table tennis group, which plays fortnightly at Gang Warily, is actively seeking more players. e history group meets every month, and for the next few sessions, they will be hearing about Kings and Queens, randomly chosen by individual members.
