Part of a national programme, the initiative will see the creation of a series of peer networks through the Solent Growth Hub, with each group consisting of 8-11 owners or managers from the SME business community participating in each network. Of these networks there are three of particular relevance to New Forest businesses. ere will be one speci cally for New Forest businesses and one each for Marine/Maritime and Women in Business. Led by an experienced facilitator, these peer networks will typically meet fortnightly as part of delivering 18 hours of action learning through 2-3-hour sessions. Individual one-to-one support (coaching, mentoring, or advice) will also be provided either directly by the programme, or from other existing schemes to help to implement and manage change. For further details, including qualifying criteria, visit the Solent LEP website at www.solentlep.org.uk/solent-lep-peer- to-peer-network More than half a million pounds has so far been invested in employment training in Hampshire in the rst half of 2020, under a Hampshire County Council scheme that aims to create more apprenticeship opportunities in the county – with care homes by far the biggest bene ciary. e funding forms part of a £900,000 transfer from the County Council’s Apprenticeship Levy made available to help fund new apprenticeships until 31st March 2021 . Of the 120 transfers approved by the end of June, 91 went to applicants in the care sector. Priority has also been given to small and medium enterprises, public bodies such as local councils, the emergency services and construction companies. Employers seeking a share of the County Council’s transferred levy fund are encouraged to prioritise the o er of an apprenticeship to those who are vulnerable, such as young people who are not in education or training, the long-term unemployed, care leavers and people with Special Educational Needs and disabilities. To qualify, employers must ensure apprentices are a Hampshire resident or working in the county, and that the apprentice’s place of training and work will be within the Hampshire local authority area (even if the employer’s head o ce is not). Further sector related criteria will also apply.
