As a former medic who served in the Royal Navy for ten years, Liz brings a wealth of seafaring experience to her role at JST – a global charity that o ers mixed ability sailing experiences. During her time with the Royal Navy, Liz was awarded with a Naval Base commendation while working onshore. She implemented a process that improved the force protection through a series of ship visits, audits, training and improving the crew members tness for operational duties through preventative measures. Since leaving the Royal Navy, Liz took a short career break to raise her children before becoming a medical lecturer in 2012. en in 2016, she set up her own business, Red Square Medical, which supports seafarers with a tailored medical service. Coming across the global sailing charity through her company’s work, Liz has been training medical workers on board JST’s agship, Tenacious . e ex-forces member turned trustee brings with her extensive experience and understanding of life as a sailor and what it takes to keep captain and crew safe on board. Liz, who is from Winchester, said: “I’ve spent my working life either at sea or helping others onshore and offshore – an interest that was handed down to me from my father, who worked in the merchant navy and always had a great story to tell when I was a child. I’m delighted to be taken on as a trustee for the JST. To be able to bring my experience to an organisation that makes sailing accessible to all is a real pleasure.” Patrick Fleming, JST’s Chief Executive, said: “ It’s fantastic to have welcomed Liz to the JST. We’re excited to work closely with her, share more about the work of the Trust and to learn from her broad experience. Welcome aboard Liz.” Liz’s company, Red Square Medical, has an objective to support seafarers at sea or ashore with a tailored medical service that means they are covered for every eventuality. e JST charity o ers people of all abilities the opportunity to climb aboard its tall ship Tenacious for an immersive sailing experience and relies on funding from the public. Since its founding in 1978 the Jubilee Sailing Trust has welcomed more than 50,000 people on board.
