At the end of the project Claire went back into the school and the children gave speeches about their chosen designs before she was presented with cakes from each of the three classes to sample. Class 3RK designed a vegan ‘Scrumptious Strawnilla’ cake, 3CB a ‘Blissful Blueberry & Lively Lemon Loaf’ and 3LM a ‘Pink Teaser Whippy Swirl’ cake. Claire then took the cakes and put them on sale in Number 15, for the children and their parents to buy, raising money for the school. e cakes were in high demand and a long queue to the cafe soon formed along the High Street in Hythe, year 3 pupil omas said: “I went to buy a slice but it had all sold out!” e cake that sold out rst was to be crowned the winner; 3CB’s ‘Blissful Blueberry & Lively Lemon Loaf’ was the triumphant bake selling out in record time! Number 15 Owner, Claire Ricketts comments: “I was amazed at the children’s eagerness to create a cake to sell at my cafe. They took on the challenge to make a cake with a secret healthy ingredient with enthusiasm and great imagination. They created three absolutely delicious cakes that sold in record time!” e children enjoyed the challenge too; Willow said: “It was fun because we got to make and eat lots of cakes!” George added: “We persuaded Claire to pick our cake with our amazing, fabulous speeches and it worked!” As well as the experience of having their own cake designs sold in a real café, the children’s baking e orts also raised £75 for their school, which will go towards new equipment for the playground. The cakes on display in Number 15 British Red Cross Fundraising Shop in North Baddesley At the rear of North Baddesley Village Hall, (SO52 9DT) you will nd a fundraising shop for the British Red Cross. e shop is open Monday to Friday, 10am to 4pm and every third Saturday of the month (except December), 10am to 2pm. ere are new bargains each week. ey accept good quality ladies and men’s clothes, household and curtains, unwanted Christmas and birthday gi s, Bric-a-brac and books. Any donations of wool (no cones) are always gratefully received for their many projects. ey are also in need of donations of wrapping paper to keep customers bric-a-brac safely wrapped.
