SPORT IN THE HERALD SUCCESS FOR FAWLEY RFC! by Rachel Clark As we reach the close of this year’s season, the club is going from strength to strength and showing the bigger clubs around Hampshire that Fawley RFC are not to be underestimated! Here’s a quick round-up of the most recent successes! The Seniors only narrowly missed winning the nal of the village cup, with a score of 28-26 to Lymington Mariners. e game came down to the last conversion on the 100th minute, both teams ghting for every point. Certainly a game for all spectators to enjoy. Fawley U11’s were undefeated in the U11’s tournament, scoring 29 tries and conceding only 3 across all the games. Some amazing tackling and rucking with a huge work rate from all players. The r e l a t i ve l y inexperienced U14 squad showed huge potential in succeeding to get all the way to the Shield Final Dibden Open Golf Society (DOGS) Results 25th April the DOGS played a Reverse Union Jack Individual Stableford Competition played on the 18 hole course with their other favourite add on competitions. Winner R Gooding (38), 2nd J Crumpler (34 C/B), 3rd J Stoker (34 C/B), 4th G O’Conner (34 C/B), 5th E Nkomo (32) and carried over 2’s - winner: G O’Connor. Nearest the pin winners: P Mortimer (4th) B Baker (24+H/Cap) and Pro’s Approach: D Wilson (15th). 2nd May the DOGS played their Monthly Individual Stableford Competition with those usual add competitions to play for, 21 members on the Dibden Golf Course with the other 20 plus members enjoying their golf in hot sunny Portugal! Winner J Poore (39), 2nd D McManus (36 C/B), 3rd T Oliver (36 C/B), 4th C Ellis (35), 5th P Wastell (32). 2’s competition winners: R Short, R Gooding & J Poore. Nearest the pin winners: G Tourle (4th) R Short (11th) Pro’s Approach: D McManus (15th) 9th May the DOGS competition was e Favourite 3 Team Stableford Yellow Peril plus those wonderful add competitions giving all players a chance to win. Winning Team: R James, A Turnpenny & D McManus (75), 2nd A Hare, N Dixon & C Waters (66), 3rd K Maton, S Hawkes & P Wastell (60). Nearest the pin winners: P Rogers (4th), M O Brien (17th). Pros Approach: R Gooding (12th), 2’s competition and coming 2nd place to Gosport and Fareham. Watch this space, exciting times ahead for this team! e U16’s reached the Bowl Play O s, beating Alton to come in 3rd place. Well done lads! Finally, some fantastic results for the U15’s who were this year’s Hampshire RFC Vase Winners! e nal score was 24-18 to Fawley in a closely played nal against Winchester. e U15’s were also joint second in league places climbed, climbing a whopping 8 places. Not satis ed with this, they then surpassed all expectations a few weeks later by coming 4th out of 16 in their rst X7’s tournament. An exciting U16’s season awaits! e end of the season doesn’t mean the end of rugby though. roughout the summer, Fawley RFC will be running FREE touch rugby sessions on weekday evenings across all age groups. Annodata Golf Competition e Annodata competition is a national Golf Club event, played with teams of 5 ladies. e Bramshott Hill team (L. Dunkason (Captain for the match), J. Weatherdon, L. Compton, S. Rothwell and M. Shepherd) played their rst round against Barton on Sea at home. Congratulations to the team on their 3-2 win. An apt result of a draw, was followed by a delicious meal. A most enjoyable day. Welcome Day is event welcomed ladies who are not members of the Bramshott Hill Ladies section to have a “taster” of playing on the 18 hole course with some of the existing members. A Bowmaker competition on the rst 11 holes of the 18-hole course, refreshments and prizes were enjoyed by all. Highest stableford points C Waters (36). Welcome back to the DOGS who enjoyed the sun in sunny Portugal on their annual golfing holiday which was enjoyed by all those taking part. Sages, Onion and Stuffing Trophies On ursday 20th April, a gloriously sunny day but with a deceptively cold wind, 42 New Forest Golf Club Seniors embarked on this trio of trophies stableford competition o the yellow tees. e course had dried out quite a lot although the ground was still very so in places, but the greens were running true. e Sages trophy for those aged between 70 and 79 was won by Brian Roberts with 39 points, 2 ahead of Malcolm Guy. e Onion Cup for those under the age of 70 was won by Steve Duckett whose 37 points were achieved with the help of 12 pars and 2 birdies.  e Stu ng Plaque for those 80 and over was won by Ian Tyrrell, a full 5 points ahead of his nearest rival Alan Clark. Sages Trophy: 1st Brian Roberts 39 pts, 2nd Malcolm Guy 37 pts, 3rd Ivor Griffiths 34 pts (20 pts back 9) (Commiserations to Ted Groves with 34 pts but only 19 on the back 9).
