Starting at Tynemouth, on the east coast, he walked along the length of Hadrian’s Wall to Bowness-on-Solway in the West, and, to date has raised £3317 for the charity. “I lost my Dad to prostate cancer a couple of years ago, and I have two friends going through their own struggles with it at the moment,” said Simon. “Early diagnosis can make all the difference, but unlike regular mammograms and smear tests that have rightfully become normal for women, men seldom get their PSA levels checked. Such a check would have saved my Dad. My aim was to raise some money and encourage men, particularly those over 50, to go for a regular blood test. It’s really simple, and can make all the difference to a longer, happier life.” e walk took in some stunning scenery through Northumbria and Cumbria, and there were some days when Simon barely saw a soul. “It was a brilliant experience, and I’m definitely bitten by the walking bug. I can’t wait to do another challenge.” If you’d like to support Simon with his fundraising for Prostate Cancer UK, please visit JustGiving.com and search for Simon Chadwick Hadrian’s Walk.
