MARVELLOUS MAKERS SUMMER READING CHALLENGE Keep your little ones reading over the holidays by signing up to the Summer Reading Challenge. This year’s challenge presented by the Reading Agency has a theme of Marvellous Makers. The Summer Reading Challenge is running at Hampshire Libraries throughout the summer holidays. Read/listen to 6 books, collect stickers, and receive a Marvellous Makers medal and certi cate on completion of the challenge. For more information and tickets please visit: www. exbury.co.uk/exbury-festival-of-music HPHA Heritage Day Hythe Pier Heritage Association (HPHA) will stage its 2024 Heritage Day event on Saturday 24th August, 10.30am–3pm. e event will be held on the Quay alongside Hythe Pier as well as on the pier itself. Heritage Day is designed to recognise the signi cance of the Hythe Ferry, Pier and its Railway in the development of Hythe and the greater Waterside community. Similar to the highly successful 2023 event, this year’s will include informative display boards and historic pier and ferry artefacts, workshop tours, merchandising, tombola and book stalls, vintage vehicles, model railways, a pop-up cafe, live music and competitions for children. Waterside Heritage will be present with a display of historic photographs from along the Waterside, Sarah Marsden will conduct history walks around the village, Marc Heighway will present a talk about the “Waterside at War”, the volunteers at the Shed (at the Pier) will welcome visitors to learn of their activities and contribution to the restoration of the Pier Train and Alan Titheridge will display his research into Hythe Pier and Ferry employees and welcome any further recollections. is will be a free event but donations will be welcome to aid the Association’s current and future projects. As well as nancial donations, HPHA needs more volunteers. Stalls include: Artisan foods, jams and marmalade, vegan candles, a local painter, woodwork and handmade arts and cra s from local cra ers.
