She was delighted and proud that the Heritage Centre was hosting such an important Exhibition explaining the signi cant role of Lepe Beach and Stanswood Bay, a relatively small area on the local coastline. e excellent Exhibition space was able to display the majority of the D-Day Lepe Heritage Group’s information and artifacts, giving a good all-round picture of the build up to the historical event of the embarkation on 6th June 1944 and arrival in Normandy. Julian Lewis, MP Pre-view for the D-Day Lepe Heritage Exhibition by Patricia Hedley-Goddard Ian Maclean, the Chairman of the group, gave a brief and concise explanation of the content on show, commencing with the build-up, departure of troops, their arrival in Normandy and also the importance of the Pipeline Under e Ocean (PLUTO). ere are maps, photo’s models and literature, some very rare, for the interested person. ere are some very new photographs taken on 3rd June 2022 of a surviving veteran of that embarkation, Cecil Newton aged 98 years, from WWII reading out the names of his fallen comrades who he le Lepe Beach with him in 1944. Among the invited guests present were e Honourable Dr. Julian Lewis MP, Dr Emma Page of Lepe House, Mr Peter Power, trustee, Dr Henry Goodall of FONFA Military Historian and Richard Reeves historian. e Exhibition ran at the New Forest Heritage Centre until 3rd July 2022.
