Hidden behind the old Abbey walls, and accessed over a cattle grid by some discreet white railings on the other side of the river, less than 200 meters from the village, the Parish Church of Beaulieu occupies the 12th Century Monks’ refectory. e well-attended, friendly church holds regular Sunday services as well as special events, concerts and services throughout the year. e worship is on the more traditional and familiar scale with hymns for the congregation. Services last no more than 1 hour. Music is a very important part of the worship and they have two choirs that alternate for services. e rst is a small professional choir who sing the most beautiful church music to the highest standards to enrich the more traditional services o ered. e second is an un-auditioned Parish choir which is open to anyone to join who has experience of singing in other choirs. ey also o er scholarships too for the most talented youngsters who receive expert training from George Richford, the new Director of Music. A ‘Come and Sing’ concert of Faure’s beautiful Requiem will be interspersed with War poetry read by Peter Melhuish. Soloists will be drawn locally and this is an opportunity to sing this poignant piece in a large group, or simply to attend and enjoy the evening. Forever Mine - The love story behind the world’s best loved hymn Living Breath Productions will present Forever Mine at St Andrew’s Church in Dibden Purlieu on Tuesday 24th October at 7.30pm. Forever Mine celebrates 250 years of the hymn ‘Amazing Grace’. is original costume drama follows the dramatic story of the hymn’s author, John Newton and is based on letters, diaries and historical writings.
